Following the horrific Boston Marathon explosion, Bureau Chief, Public Information of Boston Police Department Cheryl Fiandaca released the following tweet:

Two explosions in quick succession were detonated near the finishing line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. Two were killed and 22 were injured from the bomb attack.

Daniel Lampariello, a Boston college student, was standing at the finish line when the incident occurred. Lampariello discribed the pair of explosions sounded like large fireworks or M-80.

Competitors, race organizers, and spectators ran from the explosion, trampling over one another amid the chaos. Many bloodied victims were rushed to the medical tent for immediate attention.

A Boston Police Department Spokesperson that spoke with Business Insider confirmed the explosions occurred at 671 Boylston Street.

Images posted on Twitter depict a shocking scene of smoke, debris, and blood of the injured. According to a witness that spoke with Boston.com News: "Blood everywhere after powerful explosions near Boston Marathon finish line."

Police activity around the finish line has prompted the Boston Green line to end its service between Kenmore & Park. Police continue to investigate whether more explosives are planted. The Boston Herald reports that the explosion seemed to be centered in a 'trash can', raising deeper fear amongst Boston residents.

Authorities call the Boston Marathon finish line area a "danger zone." Runners must finish their run on the bridge just before mile 26.
