The Bionic Handling Assistant is modeled on the way an elephant's trunk picks up objects, but looks more like the tentacle arms of Spiderman's enemy Doc Ock. The robot can learn the best way to grab objects using "goal babbling," a process that babies use in which they grasp at an object a number of times before doing so successfully, thus learning the right way to do it.
