A SeaWorld stranded whale struggled on a platform for nearly half an hour before a shocked audience when trainers had left the poor animal on stage when the show was interrupted by a lightning storm. Helpless witnesses watched on as the short-finned pilot whale desperately struggled to get back into the water.

The incident was caught on video by Carlo De Leonibus and his wife Ashley, who were sitting in the audience with their 11-year-old daughter Catiana. The family was visiting SeaWorld to celebrate the little girl's 11th birthday. Though the patrons did not understand what was going on at first, it became clear that the SeaWorld stranded whale was extremely disturbed.

"After about ten minutes, I realized it was in distress," explained De Leonibus. "I felt very concerned, so I went down and told one of the employees who just dismally responded and said 'it's having fun, it's playing.' He didn't even bother to look at the whale, so I went back to the crowd. I began recording."

Other audiences also ran for the trainers begging for someone to help the SeaWorld stranded whale. One of the whale trainers at spoke into the public address system to assure the crowd that the whale will be able to return to the pool under its own power.

"The crowd was really upset and panicking," De Leonibus told the New York Daily News. "My daughter was screaming."

Ultimately, another 15 minutes had past before trainers pushed the whale back into the pool.

While it isn't clear whether the SeaWorld stranded whale suffered any permanent injury, Carlo De Leonibus' video on YouTube has gone viral, reaching out to more than 130,000 shocked viewers.

When asked how his daughter Catiana felt after witnessing the whale's distress, De Leonibus said, "She's been really disillusioned by Seaworld."
