The Jodi Arias trial is postponed as a new jury may be impaneled for a retrial in late September. The retrial will once again determine whether Arias, convicted for the first degree murder of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander, will face the death penalty or life in prison.

Jodi Arias' defense attorneys are aiming for a deal to take the death penalty off the table, thus avoiding the need for another trial.

In 2008, authorities discovered the boy of Travis Alexander in his Phoenix, Arizona, home. His body suffered a gun shot to the head, 27 stab wounds, and a slit throat from ear to ear. On May 8, the jury came to a verdict that convicted Arias of first-degree murder. However, after two weeks of deliberation following the murder conviction, the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether Arias should get life in prison or the death penalty.

According to Jodi Arias' defense attorneys, the definition of "especially cruel" is vague and is misinterpreted by the jurors. Arias' attorneys claim that the death penalty sentencing should be thown out entirely.

Judge Sherry Stephens will allow the defensed attorneys until Aug. 5 to present their argument against the death penalty sentencing. Stephens set an additional status conference on August 26 while the retrial date will be for late September.
