An Impala jumped into a car and escaped certain death by two chasing hungry cheetahs. The incident occurred at the Kruger National Park of South Africa and was caught on video. The safari asks that its visitors remain inside their vehicle at all times.

Twenty-year-old Samantha Pittendrigh witnessed the incredible event with her friends Tanith Human, 20, Carmen Thvle, 21, and Michelle De Jager, 21. Pittendrigh instinctively recorded a video when she witnessed a herd of impalas racing for their lives.

One of the poor impalas was left behind by the herd and became the primary target of the pair of chasing cheetahs. The terrified impala's quick thinking allowed it to leap through the window of an SUV to escape its predator.

"We had absolutely no idea what was going on," said Pittendrigh. "We watched the cheetah chasing the impala. We saw a few of them turn around in the bushes towards the road they were running from."

"All of a sudden we saw the impala jump out of the bushes and then someone started screaming 'it is in the car, it is in the car.'"

"We heard a little girl screaming in the car. The boy sitting outside the car filming looked a lot younger, so it must have been a family. People in other cars screamed 'open the door, open the door.'"

Eventually, one of the passengers managed to open the door to let the impala emerge from the confusion inside the vehicle. As if to acknowledge the Impala's resourcefulness, the two cheetahs did not chase after the impala when it hopped out of the car.

The cheetah is the fastest land animal on Earth. Found in most of Africa and parts of the Middle East, the Cheetah boasts a top speed of 75 mph and is capable of accelerating from 0-to-60 mph in just three seconds.
